These may number in the thousands and makes it difficult to "see the forest for the trees". Right now, I load the file, then apply a pre-made "noise" filter to get rid of the useless errors. I also will apply a highlight or two in most cases of manually exclude.
In a moment of laziness, I thought "it would be nice to be able to specify templates/highlights to apply automatically on file open in the parser configuration" so that I didn't have to go through the same extra steps I know I will need to do every time I open a specific type log file.

Just a thought!!
Bill G.

RE: Parser defined automatic template/highlight application.

It's a good idea. I have made a note and will post back here when we have a BETA to show you. I would expect something in the next 3 - 6 months.

Thanks!

Toby

RE: Parser defined automatic template/highlight application.

Thanks,
NP, like I said, just a thought for the future.
Bill

RE: Parser defined automatic template/highlight application.

Hi Bill,

I like the idea and I can see where this is helpful - especially for users who have a lot of templates. I think we could do this by adding a file name filter to the template definition. So you could say, "Automatically apply this template to any file matching 'MyApp*.log'".

My concern is that it would need to be implemented in a way that does not complicate the program. This is a 'advanced' feature that would only really appeal to someone who is familiar with the application.

Possibly, we could implement this under 'Parser Configuration' -> 'Automatic Templates'. Trouble is the setting will not make any sense until users have created templates which can then be applied.

A feature that has been on the backlog for awhile now is 'Triggers'. The idea here is still being flushed out, but they will work something like Microsoft Outlook Rules. In fact, 'Rules' might be a better name. I think the feature you are suggesting might work really well as a type of rule rather than an independent setting. It may be best to wait until this feature has been developed.

Thanks for the feedback!

Toby
