Trial License even if registered

I was using LogViewPLus for a year with a registered license. Today it says: "Your trial license has expired!" and I am not allowed to re-register because my license is older than one year. How can I use my purchased license on my machine (which hasn't changed)?

Hi Markus,

LogViewPlus is licensed per user, so you can install LogViewPlus on as many machines as you need, but only while the support contract is active. New installs are prohibited after support expiry. Once registered, LogViewPlus will work indefinitely on the target machine.

If you feel the machine is unchanged you can check that things like the machine name, target LogViewPlus version (upgrades are not allowed) and registration email address have not changed. The registration may need to be reapplied after significant machine changes.

You can also check the status of your license key.

Hope that helps,

If the license was per user, I as the same user should be allowed to use it!

Actually, I am no longer allowed to use the purchased license. You also say, it does not expire. Name it how you want, but if I cannot use a purchased license anymore (when I am asked to re-register) the original license has expired - is no longer valid.

Means, what you are writing on the web-site "LogViewPlus is licensed per-user and can be installed on multiple machines as long as the end user is the same person." is a lie, and that is why I am really surprised to see, I can't use what I bought anymore. Be clear on the web-site from the beginning on and avoid such disappointing surprises.

And, yes, my PC name has changed.

Hi Markus,

I understand your frustration, but the purchase page you quoted also states: "Existing installs will continue to work normally, but you will not be able to register on new machines". This limitation is also detailed in our license email, renewal reminders, and the two-page EULA.

A renamed PC is identical to a new computer in our licensing system. Since your support has expired, the block on new machine registration was applied exactly as described on the purchase page.

Once registered on a machine, our license is perpetual for that machine. New machine registrations can only be done under a support contract. This model allows us to offer a low initial price while keeping renewal fees as low as $11.25. The trade-off for that low price is that license portability ends when the support contract ends.

As I mentioned in the other thread, we recognize this trade-off causes confusion and we are actively working to change it.

You can also check the status of your license key.

Your validation says:
"The license key is valid, but support expired on 14 Nov 2025. New installs prohibited."
Well, I don't want to re-install the software, I want to continue using it, on the same machine but with a different name. And your excuse is: I am forced to re-install when I change the machine name!???

Basically, it is not about the $11.25, if it was clear from the beginning on that your license model is basically a subscription model, which, despite many excuses, is simply not seen as such.

> we are actively working to change it
And what does that mean: Can I expect to have a solution to continue using my license in the next week or so?

Hi Markus,

Our licensing system uses the Machine Name as a core part of the unique identifier for the registration. When the Machine Name changes, the cryptographic signature of the license breaks. The system correctly identifies this as a "New Registration."

While the license to run the software is perpetual for the registered machine, the ability to port that license to a new identity (Machine Name) is a service provided only under an active support contract.

Since your support has expired, the system automatically rejects new registrations.

However, since you are on the exact same machine, you can simply revert the Computer Name to the original name it held when you registered. Once the name matches the original record, the existing license on the machine will validate immediately without requiring a server check-in.

We are updating our model for future versions, but we will not be patching the legacy licensing system.
