Today we are announcing LogViewPlus v2.4.34. This is a big release with a lot of new features and bug fixes, but there are couple of features worth highlighting.

First, this release adds support for UDP and Syslog. Syslog messages have a built in format, so parsing is not necessary. UDP is a bit trickier because the format is unknown. For UDP messages we made the decision to stream the messages to a file which can then be parsed as normal. This is similar to the technique we use for SFTP.  You can find the configuration settings for Syslog and UDP under Settings -> Data Access -> Data Sources.

We have also added support for interactive SFTP authentication. To see this in action, just leave the password field blank when configuring the server connection details. When LogViewPlus attempts to establish a connection to the server, you will be prompted for the password on demand. This not only increases security, but also allows for authentication with servers where the password is unknown or frequently changing.

Another really handy feature we added based on customer feedback is the ability to copy all values in a column based on row selection. This makes it a lot easier to work with the data displayed in LogViewPlus.  It's a great feature idea and it will add even more value in the future as we improve our message sub-parsing routines.

There are a lot of other little tweaks and bug fixes in this release. To see the full list of features, check out our release notes

What's next? We are looking to LogViewPlus v2.5.

LogViewPlus v2.5 will require .Net 4.7.2. This version of .Net was released over 2.5 years ago and it is very well distributed at this point - so hopefully this will not cause any issues for most customers. We need to upgrade to .Net 4.7.2 for a couple of reasons. First, .Net 4.7.2 is needed for some of the DPI changes we want to make. Second, we have plans to add ETW support to the application, but the ETW parsing routines provided by Microsoft require us to upgrade our .Net version. ...and, of course, there are lots of other reasons including improved performance and support for long directory paths.  This upgrade has been a long time coming, but we have tried to delay it as long as possible to allow for a more natural roll out of .Net 4.7.2.

Upgrading the .Net version will require a lot of testing - so it may be several months before the next big release. Because of this, there may be a minor release in the next week or two while we try and sneak in a few more features. Whether this release happens or not will be dependent on the customer feedback we receive over the next week.

That's all the news we have for now. Check out the latest release and let us know what you think!

Cheers,

Toby
